On Equal Pay Day, Rep. Rothman Continues to Urge Congressional Action to Ensure Equal Pay for Equal Work
April 22, 2008 Today, Equal Pay Day, Congressman Rothman expressed his continuing strong support for legislation to strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and close the wage gap between women and men. To make equal pay for equal work a reality, Rothman has co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. These bills aim to provide more effective remedies to women who receive discriminatory pay and hold employers accountable for paying women less than their male colleagues for comparable work. National Economic Woes Hit Home: Fair Lawn Small Business Owner Outlines Struggle to Stay Afloat at Listening Session
April 7, 2008- One of the most compelling moments of Congressman Rothman's Listening Tour came when a local bakery owner explained how the rising cost of commodities like eggs and milk, combined with the drop in household income for non-necessities such as pastries, along with the increased transportation costs caused by rising gas prices, are squeezing him out of business. It was a striking, real-life example of how the nationwide economic chaos that President Bush has presided over can be particularly harmful to local family businesses. March 31, 2008 Jersey City and Newark Housing Authority officials met with Congressman Rothman to discuss the federal "Moving to Work" program, which gives public housing officials greater flexibility to design ways to help public housing residents become more self-sufficient. "We must constantly explore options to help fellow New Jerseyans find educational opportunities, employment opportunities and other means toward gaining independence and stability. January 31st is Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day; Tax Refund for Low-Income Workers Is Available
January 18, 2008 With tax season upon us, the Internal Revenue Service will host an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day on January 31, 2008. The EITC is a federal income tax credit for low-income workers that can lower taxes by hundreds or thousands of dollars. If the amount of the credit exceeds the amount of tax owed, it can also result in a sizable tax refund. Learn more

September 17, 2007 The Bergen County Workforce Investment Board and Bergen Community College have announced a series of "Step Up and Take the Lead" seminars to help residents make their businesses more successful. September 3, 2007 In commemoration of Labor Day 2007, Rep. Rothman said: "This Labor Day, I am happy to report that America is headed in a new, better direction... in the last eight months, the House of Representatives has passed legislation to allow free choice for people to bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions; to provide collective bargaining rights for public safety officers in all 50 states; to allow shareholders to vote on excessive corporate executive pay; and to restore $1.4 billion that President Bush cut from vital employment and training programs, including the dislocated worker program and Job Corps."
